Master Bond offers a highly flexible, toughened UV curable composition that provides engineers design flexibility to enhance the capabilities of medical devices. This single component, no mix product called UV15X-6MED-2 is used for bonding, sealing, coating, and encapsulation applications. It is capable of being employed in various medical devices and surgical instruments. This moderate viscosity formulation withstands severe thermal cycling, vibration, impact, shock and exhibits superior adhesion to multiple similar/dissimilar substrates including metals, rubbers, glass, most plastics such as polycarbonates and acrylics.
UV15X-6Med-2 has an elongation of >100% and Shore D hardness of 25-45. Additionally, its abrasion resistance is noteworthy. It has a clear color, a refractive index of 1.50 at 589 nm and stellar electrical insulation properties. Service operating temperature is from -80°F to +250°F (-62°C to 121°C).
Master Bond UV15X-6Med-2 meets USP Class VI requirements for biocompatibility and passes ISO 10993-5 testing for cytotoxicity. This biocompatible composition is not oxygen inhibited. It can be simply applied manually or automatically. This product is able to offer the following advantages:
- Increases productivity/efficiency
- Eliminates waste
- Improves cycle time
- Offers dependability in extreme conditions
- Provides durability
- Contains no solvents
- Provides a consistent bond
- Saves labor
When exposed to a UV light source emitting a wavelength of 320-365 nm with an energy output of 20-40 mW/cm2, this system will cure readily in only 10-30 seconds. Rate of cure is contingent on the distance from the light source, thickness of the section and intensity of the light source. It can cure in sections approaching 0.25 inches thick.
Incorporation of this system in the fabrication of medical devices should enhance the progress in diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of patients with chronic and acute diseases. Working in collaboration with our customers has facilitated Master Bond to tackle complex challenges with UV15X-6Med-2.
